"To Everyone at Running Deer,

Thank you so much for everything you have done for AD! You’re all very special…

Emma - for inspiring AD in art and helping create some magnificent masterpieces.

JoB for persevering with AD when resistance was strong, and helping him obtain his ASDAN.

Andy, again for persevering with AD and never giving up on him despite reluctance.

Nick and Sophie, for getting him through to sit his GCSE English exams - at times I never though this would be possible.

Nick again for whom none of this would be possible.

Martin for the football banter and being an all around good guy, oh and invigilating :)

All the support workers that have helped AD.

Most of all to Sav. Sav, you’ve been totally incredible. Words cannot describe just how massively grateful I am that you exist and became AD’s main support. You will always hold a very special place in both our hearts.

Thank you to all of you.

A&A x"

"I really wanted to make sure you all know how much you have impacted all our lives , not just T. Please share the following with staff.

I honestly believe you have saved T's life and possibly mine.

When he started he was anxious , mute and terrified by all things education, I had been unable to work and sitting in car parks whilst he attended various settings for 6 years and now he is confident, resilient, and a clear direction and knows who he is !!!! This has enabled me to go back to work. His siblings to get more of my time, our whole family is happier , safer , calmer and none of it would have been possible with out running deer.

At every step you have given T a voice but on a personal level you always made sure I felt listened to and that I wasn't alone and for that I'll always be grateful. Having you in the ring with me to fight CAMHS put an end to all the professional gas lighting they were doing. He talks of you all so fondly

The jokes he shares are brilliant and we've had many laughs.

I've shed many tears about him leaving because I've never seen him more happy and the future is scary but Im hopeful that the skills and resilience he has learnt have empowered him to go forward and conquer everything he sets his mind too.

I will never ever forget the important, life changing impact you have all individually had on our family."

"I can’t quite believe K’s time has come to an end at Running Deer.

Thank you for the kindness and love you all have shown K in her years at Running Deer. It is the first time she has ever known what she has been doing at school, where she has been fully involved with her heart and soul. I feel she arrived, not even wanting to cling onto life.

You all, plus the staff who are no longer there, the trees, the dogs, (especially Herbie) breathed new life into her her heart and soul.

Thank you for persevering, for never giving up even when she was a tricky customer covered in layers and layers of masking. For just allowing her to gently unfold and blossom in her own time.

You just let K be K and she has thrived. Neither of us will ever forget Running Deer".

There was one formal complaint made against the school in the academic year 2019-2020. The majority of this complaint was dismissed by the Board of Directors, but the school acknowledge that that there were aspects of the communication which could have been better during what would have been a very challenging situation for the parents.

The Executive Directors were criticised by the Board for the delay in responding to the complaint. However the Board of Directors appreciated that the global Covid-19 pandemic and national lockdown would have had an impact on the schools ability to investigate the complaint in a timely fashion.

Academic Year 2018 – 2019

In the academic year 2018 to 2019 no exams were taken and one complaint was made. The complaint was partially upheld and the Board of Directors made the following recommendations as a result:

  • Complete a review of Running Deer School practice regarding therapy dogs.
  • Review the Risk Assessment for Butterdon Wood: ensure that the main gate is closed and latched when staff are not present; that the gate is staffed at the beginning and end of the day, and when the gate is opened for vehicle access; install signage, latches and a system so that the gates will close on their own.
  • Investigate whether any improvements could be made on how we communicate with parents and guardians, and whether anything else can be done to improve student transitions.

Academic Year 2017 – 2018

In the academic year 2017 to 2018 no exams were taken and no formal complaints were made.
